Welcome Reception - Sunday Evening 7.30 pm until 9.30 pm

Delegates and guests are invited to the symposium's welcome reception that will be held at the Faculty Club, situated in the beautiful 13th-century Infirmerie of the Grand Beguinage and the Convent of Chièvres of Leuven (a UNESCO world heritage site). Drinks and snacks will be served in the gardens if weather permits, otherwise service will be in the Faculty Club's reception rooms.

Symposium Excursion - Tuesday Afternoon 12.30 pm until 6.00 pm

Flavours and Aromas of Belgium. Belgium is known internationally for products that engage our sense of taste and smell. Top amongst these - excepting possibly 'French' fries - are Belgian Chocolates and Belgian Beer.

Although Leuven is the home of the brewer of the internationally-known lager, Stella Artois, to engage these senses, we take you a little farther a' field to a slightly smaller brewery that uses methods traditional to the Flemish Brabant region. Here, you'll learn some of the secrets of the brewing process that makes Belgian Beer world famous and, naturally, have the chance to sample some of the finished products. Of course, brewing beer requires a certain amount of horse power; something that you'll also discover during the afternoon.

Belgium National Holiday - Wednesday 12.30 pm until 3.30 pm

An extended lunch break is planned on Wednesday afternoon for the conference photograph and to enjoy some of the events in Leuven associated with the Belgium National Holiday. Amongst other activities, delegates and guests are free to discover the new "M" museum of Leuven, containing many national and international masterpieces, and can also watch some matches of the National Beach Volleyball Tournament in the city centre.

Polanyi Medal and Lecture  - Thursday evening 6.30 pm until 7.30 pm

The Polanyi medal presentation and the Polanyi lecture, one of the highlights of the symposium, will take place on Thursday evening, before the symposium banquet, between 6.30 pm and 7.30 pm in the Promotiezaal of the Grand University Hall. Guests of delegates are also welcome to attend this event. Evening attire please.

Symposium Banquet  - Thursday evening 8.00 pm until 11.00 pm

The symposium banquet, for both delegates and their guests, will take place in the palatial Jubilee Hall. Bringing the symposium to a fitting conclusion will be the traditional after-dinner speeches, awards of poster prizes, and the announcement of the venue for the following Gas Kinetics Symposium.
