The Committee of the Gas Kinetics Discussion Group of the Royal Society of Chemistry, UK, and the Reaction Kinetics Group of Katholieke Universiteit Leuven, Department of Chemistry are pleased to announce that the 21st International Symposium on Gas Kinetics (GK2010) is to take place in the historic and picturesque Flemish university city of Leuven, Belgium from Sunday until Friday, 18 - 23 July, 2010.*

This series of bi-annual international symposia are intended as stimulating forums for scientists around the world to present and discuss the latest advancements in experimental, computational and theoretical research related to fundamental gas-phase chemistry, photo-chemistry and heterogeneous processes occurring in gaseous media.

These symposia have in the recent past attracted more than two hundred delegates; particularly those working in the fields of atmospheric chemistry, combustion chemistry, and the chemistry of interstellar regions and outer-planetary atmospheres. As usual, the symposium will be structured around a series of chaired, 20 min presentations organised into sessions of topical areas of research, with each session beginning with a longer, invited presentation. A wider range of subjects, and opportunities for more in-depth discussions, will be accommodated by poster presentations during two early-evening sessions and - new for GK2010 - during an innovative discussion session devoted to the latest advances in tropospheric ozone chemistry.

Both delegates and accompanying guests will have ample opportunity to explore and enjoy the charm of Leuven and its surrounding areas (including Brussels for guests) both in their free time and during the organised social program. The symposium will begin on Sunday evening with a reception at the Faculty Club, located in the charming Beguinage of Leuven, and will come to a fitting conclusion with the award of the prestigious Polanyi medal and Polanyi lecture, followed by the symposium banquet in the Grand University Hall on Thursday evening.

*Note, the symposium banquet should end at 11.30 pm on Thursday, so most delegates will probably leave during Friday morning. Some delegates might want to stay an extra evening however to enjoy the Friday-evening music festival in Leuven - more details to follow.
